Bas PARIS holds a postgraduate degree in Environment and Sustainable Development from University College London, as well as a degree in Governance and Politics in Africa from the School of Oriental and African Studies. He has lived and worked in Africa, Europe, and North America, and has recently completed research in Peru, focusing on injustices created through socio-ecological transformation of the Lima coastline. At CILAS, Bas coordinates the thematic Green Economy course, and plans to to develop the CILAS rooftop garden.
David THOLEN worked in London with the Centre of Turkey Studies (CTS) and contributed to the online newspaper ‘The Libya Intelligence Online’ prior to joing CILAS. He holds a graduate degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in Near and Middle Eastern Politics. David is culturally and politically interested in phenomena and dynamics of the Middle East and North Africa, especially with regards to patterns of state-society interaction. Having spent his youth in Africa, and having had the opportunity to attend educational institutions that fostered critical thinking and social consideration, he is dedicated to contributing to a peaceful, just, and sustainable future. At CILAS, David serves as Assistant Programme Director and coordinates coursework in the Social Sciences.
Raju HITTALAMANI was Media Associate at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) in Bangalore prior to joining CILAS. He completed a graduate degree in Media and Cultural Studies at the School of Media and Cultural Studies at Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai. Raju is trained as a documentary film-maker and researcher in the field of media and cultural studies producing remarkable insight into the Indian public sphere, media representation of community identities and expressions of resistance. Previously he had been a visiting student at Sciences Po Paris where he followed coursework in International Affairs. Raju has worked in the field of education both with and at public and private schools in India. At CILAS, Raju serves as Media Lab Director and coordinates coursework in Arts and Culture.
